Polyethylene is a tough lightweight and chemical-resistant thermoplastic. It is the most commonly used plastic globally. There are currently 8 different varieties of polyethylene that are commercially available including:

  1. High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
  2. High-Density Polyethylene Copolymer
  3. Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)
  4. Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE)
  5. Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) (also HMWPE and HDPE-HMW)(ultra low molecular weight polyethylene)
  6. Cross-Linked Polyethylene (PEX or XLPE)
  7. Medium Density Polyethylene (MDPE)
  8. Very Low-Density Polyethylene (VLDPE)

All of these different grades of polyethylene make it one of the most versatile plastic materials on the market. A lot of polyethylene is used for the film which is then used to make everything from moisture barriers for construction to garbage bags. Many containers such as milk jugs are made from polyethylene also. Some bulletproof vests use ultra-high molecular-weight polyethylene fibers. Also cross linked polyethylene is used for residential water supply piping.

The typical brands of polyethylene plastic resin offered by Midwest Resins are:
